Bandwidth Controller

edited December 2004 in Science & Tech
My system is one of the 4 computer using a shared internet connection split by a router, Is there any program which i can use to control the bandwidth shared by the router, or any way to make the router share out the bandwidth equally, stopping my housemate downloading stuff all the time by hogging everyone'e bandwidth?

I don't believe you can do anything like that without having a managed switch/router (expensive). You're only option would be to setup a computer as the router and install something such as ipcop which has traffic shaping in the newest version.

If you have a linksys WRTG router there is 3rd party firmware that can be flashed onto it that will allow you to do all sorts of bandwitdh limiting.

there is also a little app called netlimiter that you could install on each computer. i really like this little app, it works well and is fairly easy to use / intuitive.

    anyway, its what i do . . .
