oh no!

So I dropped my laptop last night.. :( I am such a poor computer user.. if there was a protection agency out there for computers they might come and take it away from me..

But anyways.. my Dell Inspiron 9100 now has a broken usb port.. I had my mouse plugged in there and when it dropped, guess what hit the ground first.. the connector for my mouse. It pushed in (and broke off..) the usb connector..

I called Dell this morning and they told me my warrenty would not cover this kind of problem. I have a friend back home (where I am going this next weekend for Christmas..) who is really good with computers.. I was going to have him take a look at it and maybe just cut the thing off so it wont short anything out. My computer seems to be working fine right now.. I am on it still.. (hopefully it wont blow up... :help: )

right after it happened last night, a little window came up saying something about that usb port being shorted out or something, and it said it was going to disconnect power it it....

I was wondering if anyone had this happen before, what they did about it, if just taking it apart and cutting off that usb port would be ok.. ( I can live with out it..) and if I need to send it in to let the pros work on it, where should I send it? Should it go to Dell??
I dont have a lot of money, so price is going to play a large role here.. :(

thank you for you time, and sorry for the poor picture quality.. :)

If you desolder the jack from the motherboard, it will not have any ill effect on the computer itself, so I would say just cut it right off... :(

haven't seen you in quite a while... welcome back! :)

I would second that, just make sure it is cleaned up afterwards so as not to short anything else.
