PSU Rating Advice Sought
Merry Xmas, evre1... (Brand New Member)
I'd like to know if I mis-engineered this rig I've been building. Having been a Mac and a SCSI user, I read Radified.com's SCSI guide and decided to build my third PC. It has two 10 KRPM Seagate Cheetah HDs in it, plus a 80 GB Barracuda IDE-Type drive. MB is a ABIT NF7-S, CPU an AMD Sempron 2400, 512 MB Crucial DDR RAM, DVD-ROM fro CD's , and a Floppy, all housed in an Enermax CS 1251 B, whose PSU is an Enermax EG365P-VD, rated at 350 W.
What annoys me with this is that while formatting the partitions on the Cheetahs, the unit COMPLETELY POWERS DOWN!! The CPU Temp in the BIOS never exceeds 50º C , so, I can't see thia as a CPU Protection Shutdown.
Someone share the benefit of your wisdom please! Does Enermax really make a good PSU? Or is it the 29 W apiece the SCSI's are pulling? (before the drive fans!) :guitar:
Thanks for all your help,
Garry

yea i would recommend a stronger PSU, 450w+ range. Enermax are good. I personally prefer Antec. If you want the best, PC Power & Cooling will do.
Just dropped into this thread to see if anyone has pointed you to the PSU Calculator. And I see that Nebulous has you on the right track. It's always good to check your PS needs before buying.
Here's the latest:
With a 480 Watt Antec TruPower PSU, the problem PERSISTS .
What component on the MB is involved in this?
Its UPS is a Back-UPS Pro 500 Clear. Any bearing on things?
Thanks much again,
Garry
