need to replace - GeForce2 GTS NVIDIA

i have an NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS 32 Mb which makes a whirling/grinding sound from the fan. the intermittent sound, not unlike the shrieking of finger-nails being slid slowly across a chalk-board, is begining to drive me insane.

i am not a gamer, nor (to my knowledge) do i do much at all which would require any high-performance video card.

do you have a suggested replacement for this GeForce2 GTS? i need to spend as little as possible, but i do not want to "step-down" in quality either.

thanks!

    e-nation,

I would goto pricescan.com or newegg.com and look at what they have. I know they have older video cards that will fit your budget and be just as good. Good Luck!

    thanks for the advice.

i think partially what i'm trying to figure out here is... in your opinion, what difference will i notice if i get a vid card w/ specs of less high performance than what i have now. i mean, after all... shouldn't i consider limitations of my monitor (NEC MultiSync E750), etc?

Why don't you just replace the fan? Geforce 2's heatsinks/fans are epoxied on, but they are pretty easily pulled of with a pair of pliers. You may have trouble finding a fan with a 2 pin header, but you can splice a 3 pin fan onto your original header. That is the way to go if you aren't interested in a video card upgrade. Price under $20 including the cost of some thermal adhesive.
