The 1002 is the actual revision of the bios. Just look at the Asus site and see if they offer something newer then 1002. If you don't have any issues I would suggest leaving it alone as the old saying applies.
There are several updates, do i just pick the newest one? I have been having intermitent voltage dips and spikes, tried changing out the power supply and that didnt help. I do have a battery back up which has evr(electronic voltage regulator). Not sure where else too look. The only card i have is radeon 9600 video card, everything else is onboard. Any ideas?

Any chance of something on the board grounding out to the case?
When you say voltage dips are you referring to the voltage monitoring software or are you using a DMM?

Specifically which voltages are dipping and/or spikeing?
All the voltages dip mostly, spike sometimes at different times. The 12 volt, 5 volt, 3.3 and 1.5 not all at same time. sometimes 2 at the same time always different. Using the asus probe software that came with motherboard.
Typically the board manufacturer's utility is the most reliable, but maybe you should load up Motherboard Monitor and see if the output from it shows the same. I have had instances where the manufacturer's probe utility was giving me bogus information.
Is the computer running instable or are any of the components running really hot? Are you overclocking at all?
