hey guys i'm kinda boxed into a conner on this one but lets see where it goes.

here's my situation, i need to get info transfered from "pc A" to "pc B" they are about 20-25 miles apart. here are the conditions though, no dsl, no cable, no dial up. i need wireless. the area is remote. i would like to transfer the files once a week, they have an average total size of 50-60 megs. i've looked into remote SCATA systems but don't know if i can make the PCL modem work with a pc.

i need to know about possible cellular modems and radio modems, and what's needed for each

if you know about SCATA systems please help, i'm a newb at this.

yeah...i have a sandisk 256mb but the boss wants remote access.
money is not a problem since someone else will be financing it.

The only tech that I know of that would be practical is microwave.. Not sure where to begin looking for something like that, but you'll need to have a tower on each end (due to dangerous emissions, needing to be a certain height off the ground) and a transmitter/receiver on each end. The bandwidth can be enormous, but the initial investment might be high.

Microwave is the only thing I know of that DOES have that kind of range - 20 to 25 miles.

... there was no need for an attack... i was just saying that i didn't know that microwave could go 25mi. and i was laughing at the popcorn thing, not the fact that you suggested microwave.

I would suggest looking into getting a satelite internet hook up.

Microwave hook-ups in my area cost around $1000cdn for the hardware (per site) and the isp's charge $300 a month for the service. Keep in mind with Microwave you need line of site from hop to hop.

What about carrier pigeon and attaching a cd to it's legs.

Ohhh or a giant magnetic accelerator and you could just fire cd's of data at them?

huh, what about snail mail? could you mail a thumb drive? it would get there the next day if its only 25 miles apart, right? or perhaps driving is as "on-demand" as you are gonna get . . .

    Use icq.com
Set it at bedtime,no size limits. There are many other P2P options.
This isn't a SCATA problem as i see it just a File Transfer method.
    :fu:
oops how did you get here then ?

He did say no traditional internet. try these adapters:

    http://www.elandigitalsystems.com/adapter/p111.php
    http://www.proxim.com/products/wifi/client/802.11b_pci/

Can't vouch for them myself, but that may be a solution. I shudder to think of the cell phone bills and hopefully digital cell phones (not analog mode) work in your location.

yeah i've already got the pci adapter for the cell modem i'm just in the process of hooking it up.

Cell modem txfer rate and bill will be horrendous comparatively to Microwave. It'd probably be cheaper to drive there and back daily.

This stuff is frowned on here as you'll see.

This was posted last year somewhere,is this you again ?
How much data has to be transfered in each trip ?
    Wouldn't 1 or 2 dvd-rw's do it ?
