p5gd1 set-up issues

hey all. i guess this is as good a time as any to make my 1st post so here it goes. i have a p5gd1 mobo,1 gig ram, 80 gig hd and everything was going great til last night. i decided to install windows xp ( i was running 2000) so after i got it up and running i tried to install drivers. i dont have a disk for my mobo so i had a burned disk with driver on it i got from asus. i got the sound drivers installed and working, installed my video card drivers for my x600xt. ok so far so good. then i go to install my network card drivers ( built in to mobo) and still everything is good.... that is untill i actually hooked up my cable from the cable modem to the network card. then roughly 4 to 5 seconds later the screen freezes and that is all she wrote. i can unhook my cat cable and reboot and everything works as it should. as soon as i hook it back up it will freeze back up. any ideas?

    Well I have the same mobo and it's been with out problems. Also check to see if XP is running on at least SP1.
