Linksys Wirless adapter will connect to router but not internet
I just bought a Linksys WPC54G for my HP laptop. Well everytime it detects a wireless connection and can connect but I cant get online. It says connected and signal strength is good but i cant surf. I can tell it isnt assigning a gateway or dns to the computer, and when I called they had me reinstall the card and still, it connects but thats all it does. So they told me it was the router which isnt true because the guy next to me was using it and it does this on other wireless networks. So they said they cant help me, yeah linksys support sucks. So i was wondering if you guys may have had to deal with this at all. I think it has something to do with windows because for some reason I get an IP but now gateway or DNS is showing up in the field.
If it doesnt work im going to go buy a different adapter and try that, any good brands?

As for your problem I'm going to guess if you look at the IP it's 169.x.x.x which means it's actually not grabbing a propper IP and is just assigning the default 'you don't haven an IP' IP that windows hands out. First thing to check is to make sure in your tcp/ip settings that you have Assign IP and DNS both set to Auto. Then shut your computer off for about a minute and turn it back on.
Also it could be that your network is not broadcasting its SSID in which case you have to manually tell the card what SSID to use. It's also possible that your network is using WEP in which case again you have to tell your machine what the WEP code is. The last thing to check is to make sure you are trying to connect using the proper channel.
OH also this should be in the Networking seciton.
