Problem booting from a clones disk

edited January 2005 in Hardware
Hi folks.

I copied my hard drive with Norton ghost and made a clone. Howevere, when I went to boot from this drive an eror message came up and said searching for boot record, and then the please insert a bootable disk in drive a:.

The original disk was Windoes 98 1st edition. I am right in thimnking that the new disk should be an exact copy of the old one and should have booted.
I did have the jumper set to master.

Any ideas
Thanks
Paul

Under normal circumstances a cloned disk will work the same as the original. Now when you did the clone did you do a disk - disk clone or partition - partition. It's possible, that the partition - partition may cause this problem because it won't clone the boot record. Reboot with a bootable floppy that has the sys command on it and then from the floppy do sys c: If everything else is there it should boot.
