Dumb question alert!! Need help....

I know that we can watch CPU activity via the task manager, and also monitor network activity, but does such a program exist to tell us what is tying up my hard-drive???

Other than the fact that my machine is running like a snail, and the drive activity light is nailed, I have no idea what is accessing my drives...

Does some kind of monitoring tool exist to tell me what is accessing my drive??

Dumb I know, but I am curious...

Any help greatly appreciated!! :):bowdown::bowdown::p:thumbsup:

Sounds like your pc is being accessed. Check this thread where another member is having similar problems....... Network constantly sending out data
The one site Shell Extension City has all kinds of free programs to monitor, scan & secure your pc and network.
But the first thing you should do is..... download, install and run these programs. If you don't have them already, we have links to them in the Icrontic Forums section ....... Icrontic recommended downloads
    Spybot Search & Destroy.......Ad-Aware.......CWShredder
Try them first to see if you've been hijacked or have a virus, then you may want to try one of the free monitoring programs like securepoint nuzzler to see who or what is acccessing your pc.

jwersan, IMO Hawk is right, not much else will peg your HD activity like spyware.
You might have to boot into safe mode to do some poking around and eliminate the sluggish issue if you can't control it in normal mode.

    oldtimer, hope this helps

    Process File: wdfmgr or wdfmgr.exe
Process Name: Windows Driver Foundation Manager

    Description:
wdfmgr.exe is part of Microsoft Windows media player 10 and above. This process decreases compatibility problems whilst the product is in use. This program is non-essential process to the running of the system, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems.

I did some property checks today, now you and others will know why i don't use WMPlayer.
And the whole bloody MSN,isn't it called
    My Computer ?
But thought the codecs etc was worth the upgrade.
So something else is controlling it so it's by by.
Ad Aware se keeps me in good shape.

I just discussed something similar elswhere and we concluded that you should easily be able to turn off the modem connection when not in use, thus eliminateing Firewall and other protection to interfere with other apps like games.

I'm sorry, it is not spyware or virus related. I run several spy/virus software programs. I just notice that on several occasions when I run certain programs, the drive seems to go nuts, yet the program is pulling next to nothing on the CPU or on the network side. I don't believe that it is scanning the drive, but that is what it looks like. It also does not seem to be program specific...

    Clueless on my part...
    :)

What i get is sitting back with nothing running in my LZboy and the HD lite just flickers. The only thing running is My cable internet service.
Then WDFMGR starts to run.Maybe it won't since i removed WMP 10.
I guess i have to try shutting down my modem.
If you go back to 1993 then you know something is different.
    Any comments on this ?

jwersan, What kind of ISP are you running?--DSL--Cable--Dialup....
And have you tried starting up in safemode and running all the spyware programs?
    If not try that next.
Also, You may want to try an online virus scan.... Trend Micro

I run Optimum Online Cable broadband to a Linksys BEFW11S4 router.

I have run the virus scans in safe mode--> Clean system.

I was just wondering if a program existed that would point me to what was accessing my drive..

    TIA!
