d346bus.sys / mup.sys hangup
I Fell victim to the d346bus.sys / mup.sys system freezeup,
when the printer froze up the system while printing. When it first
happened, the normal desktop came up as a background without any
Icons, start menu, or Explorer. The safe mode asked me if I wanted
to "hit esc to cancel loading d346bus.sys" in the bootup(but loaded
the same way both ways), came up without any background, start
menu, or icons at all, but the Safe mode title in the center and
four corners did appear. Both modes had Windows task manager with
it's handy "file, new task, browse". But taking the advice of
forums, I fired up the windows xp upgrade disk, and clicked on
"install", it recognized the previous install, and I had it Repair
( as opposed to the Recovery console in the first menu ), and it
messed things up. Now when entering normal mode, the little bar
that scrolls to show me how far it's to booting up, it locks up
3/4's of the way. When entering safe mode, it locks up on mup.sys
without asking.
Had I access to Safe mode w/command prompt, I could rename
the d346bus.sys file to d346bus.sys.old.
Had I the administrators password, I could use the windows xp
recovery console to disable mup.sys.
Is there anyway to find out, change, or bypass the
Administrator password from within the Windows XP recovery console ?
If not, how do I access the Command Prompt from WITHIN windows xp
upgrade cd (so I can rename d346bus.sys and d346prt.sys ? Keep in
mind, it is the upgrade disk, not the original install disk, as you don't get
original install disks with pc's.
Thank you for your time. I'm so close to repairing this
problem, just a few snags to fix.
