Recently bought a Linksys wireless WRT45G Router and Gaming adaptor to use on my X-box for x-box live. I'm having great difficulty in setting it up. Don't suppose anyone else has set it up and knows what they are doing and are willing to give me a helping hand. I know it's a lot to ask but a step by step guide would be a great help. :help:

I have, but I need some more info. How are you trying to hook your xbox up to it? Are you hooking it up through a cable connection or going through a linksys WAP on your xbox or some other type of Wireless Access point.

There are a couple step by steps on here and the xbox's website is also helpful. But if you tell us what you've done so far it's more helpfull to know what we are dealing with.

I have my modem connected to the router via an ethernet connection and then the same from router to pc. i had to buy a network pci card because my pc didn't have an ethernet port. I then have the Linksys gaming adaptor connected to my x-box through an ethernet connection. The thing is when i have the modem running through the router my pc can't connect to the internet. I didn't have anywhere to connect the WAN lead that came with the card. Could this be my first stumbling block.

Are you sure you have a router connected to your modem? The linksys WRT45G wireless routers all have 4 ethernet ports on them.

Your modem should be plugged into the 'internet' or 'uplink' jack on the back of your router. Then your PC should be plugged into one of the 1-4 number jacks. If you have a 5th jack that's probably being shared with the internet/uplink jack. Do all this with everything powered off.

Then turn on your modem and plug in your router. Next boot up your computer. Once booted up you should be able to open up a browser and go to 192.168.1.1 which is the config page for your router. It'll ask you for a login/password. The default is a blank username and the password admin. Then you need to set up your router to talk to your modem. If you are using DSL that requires configuring the PPPoE settings. If you are on cable just set the router to autodetect an internet connection and you should be good to go as far as that is concerned.

On your pc if you can't see any of that it's probably because you still have all your previous internet settings there. Go into network neighbourhood and the only network connection you should have is a Local Area Connection. You may have IEEE34 connection aswell, that's fine. If you have anything else referencing the internet those need to be removed. Also double check that in your Local Area Connection you have it set to auto-detect TCP/IP and DNS. You can later set it to a static IP but for initial set up it's easier to have it on auto.

If everything is set right then you should be able to get your PC on the net. If you have all that working then it's time to worry about your xbox.

The Wireless Gaming Adapter has wonderful instructions that it comes with to get it online. If your pc and router are setup propperly you should be able to connect your xbox no problem.

So before we go further lets make sure your PC is working.
