Video capture card

edited February 2005 in Hardware
I am going to purchase an XFX Geforce F5500 video card to upgrade my pc. I also want to install a video capture card. Not knowing alot about motherboards (my pc's motherboard is an ITE IT8705F) will the motherboard accomodate both a new video card and video capture card? Thanks for an answer.

Well, they are two different things, I assume that the XFX Geforce F5500, is an AGP card, and the video capture card is to be a PCI card, correct? Most likely you won't have any conflict from the two devices once you get them working, but that might get tricky. I just put a TV/FM tuner card (which is also a video capture card) in my rig, and had one hella time getting the drivers to quit crashing the system. I could not even complete the installation of the drivers before it would dump to a blue screen. :yell1: Come to find out the PCI slot that I had it in caused some kind of conflict between the graphics card and the tuner card. I switched to the next PCI slot and BAM, drivers installed and it worked perfectly! :jelly:

Now I’m not sure what kind of video capture card you are looking for, but do some research (Google it) on the capture card and any likes / dislikes that other user have.
Good luck and keep us informed PLEASE!!

BTW, I got this one and I love it!

Thanks for the response. I have been looking at some capture cards in Tiger Direct that I like, but am not that technical with them. My main purpose is to transfer to DVD some VHF tapes we have made over the years with our VCR. Also, I would like to copy straight to DVD from television. Does anyone make an upgraded video card with video capture capability? Thanks, again.

Sure, lots of higher end cards come with video capture, I personaly have a BFG 5900 XT graphics card which has video capture capability, as well as the tuner card (I got the tv card for the TIVO/DVR capabilities). just look for cards that have VIVO (video in video out) and or capture capabilities. Newegg is great for info, and prices. :)

I decided and ordered the ATI All-in-Wonder 9800PRO vidcd. I ordered on 2/14 from Newegg and received it today 2/17. I also ordered a 400w Rosewill
dual fan since ATI recommends min. 300w. I plan on installing both tomorrow afternoon. I will let you know how good it is.

I have installed the ATI 9800PRO. It was a snap to install (I also installed a 440w Rosewill dual fan). The software was another thing. The video and audio was not in sync, so I uninstalled the software, reinstalled the software, and went to the website to dowload the new drivers. It works really well now. I have set to download 2 movies from cable tonight. Hope it works well. Will let you know.

    or,
Record a movie thats on Home Cable TV ?
    Probably the later.
I would start with a shorter recording to establish settings.
Glad your doing so well.I did ok with tv but was mainly interested in my Beta and VHS tapes. Not so good.
Let me know what format you used,eg avi, mpeg 1 2 or 4 etc.

Yes, its great. I still haven't mastered the remote. I have it connected to my VCR and viewed a VHF movie. Next, I will record from the VCR, which was my main reason to purchase the 9800AIW. I have many VCR tapes, which I want to record on dvd. I am having trouble knowing which file type to record in and playback dvds on our home dvd player. Any advice would be apreciated. Thanks. Steve
