Abit NF7-s V2 won't recognize Mobile 2500
I have an Abit NF7-s V2 and with Barton 3200 installed. I was given a Mobile AMD 2500 cpu and removed my 3200 and installed the 2500 to see if it would overclock since they are supposed to be unlocked. I cleared the cmos by removing the jumper and then installed the cpu. For some reason under the abit soft menu the cpu shows "unknown." My computer does not recognize the cpu when it boots, in the soft menu or in windows. I installed the 3200 back into the system and it is recognized immediately. Am I missing something huge here? Thank You for your help!

Abit's bios d/l site
yes, you will want to go into softmenu like i memtioned and set the multiplier and FSB to the settings you want to use, until then the cpu will probably boot at 6x100 or 6x133(depending on memory settings). once multi and fsb set, F10 to save and reboot.
there is no official NF7 bios that will support the mobileXP, there are several modded bios that will display the mobileXP. the mobileXP works because the NF7 has the ability to adjust multi's and fsb.
if your using pc3200, try 10x200, which would give you a nice 2.0ghz starting point, although your cpu should do 11x200 easily with good air cooling. hope this helps
once u set the speed of the cpu, the "enter softmenu hit F1" message should disappear. when the pc boots it will always say "unknown cpu", but should boot fine into windows.
a modded bios is usually used for overclockers who want extra fsb/performance. alot of them have been modded to have the boot screen say AthlonXP cpu or Mobile Athlon etc.
the mobile cpu's, 2400+2500+2600+ have been know to be excellent overclockers. look at my sig to see what my 2400+ does. as long as you have good cooling and monitor temps ive seen anywhere from 2200mhz to 2800mhz with the mobile XP's.
if your going to run default speed remember the 2500+ mobile is default 1.45v, so setting it in softmenu will allow a much cooler cpu. once you get you cpu setup in bios, then you can play with multi's and fsb for overclocking
have fun, a mobileXP and NF7-S 2.0 is one of the best socket A systems!
