XP Pro Prob

Today I installed a brand new Maxtor 250GB hard drive. I had started to install Win2KPro but when I found out it only supported drives up to 131GB I stopped. I had even, against my better judgement, use the MaxBlast 3 software that came with the drive to see if that would help. It didnt. So I finially bit the bullet and bought XP PRo w/sp2 at local pc shop. Trouble is, it too only saw 131GB after installing. I installed anyhow figuring on seeing what "Disk Manager" would show. It only showed the 131. I did each time have this 131 into 2 partitions (30Gb and 100GB). NOTE: I DID NOT ACTIVATE MY XP YET.
Does this mean I CAN delete the partitions and reinstall WinXP without any probs? Also I could not get online with that pc so it did NOT get in contact with Microsoft. :help: Looking forward to getting past this.........Bruce :help:

If I do a Fdisk /mbr , should WinXP Pro sp2, see the full drive size? I am planning anyhow to have the OS on 30GB and possibly having the remaining 220GB into 2 partitions of 110Gb each

There is a patch on maxtors site that fixes this problem.

Here's what you need to do.... Maxblast 3 Set Drive Size
This will overcome the bios capacity limitation.
Oh, And you can reinstall XP as many times as you want before you activate it.

Currently I have the drive as follows C=40gig and has windows on it, the balance (currently 98gig I think) is not formated. If I do as the Maxblast says, will I loose my OS and have to reinstall again. Note:windows still not activated but I'm watching the days tick off. I have 28 days left as of today Friday

Someone with maxblast may be able to confirm this but if it works the same as Western Digitals software unfortunately you will loose all the drive information.

yes, you will lose all drive info when you re-format it. also, windows will only see so much of the drive before SP1 or before you install the "big drive enabler" just make sure you partition it to its full size through maxblast.
