Help building a Network

Hi guys, I am new here, I have 2 computers I would like to make it that they see each other on the network so I can move files around. How would I do this? Lets say I have comp A,B.
The A is the main one and has all the progs on it, I want to be able to let B see the progs and install them from A. How do I do this?
Running WindowsXP Pro.

    Ok the chart looks like this

    internet---modem---router - Computer A
    .....................................- Computer B


    between the internet and the router is your cable/dsl modem. You then just set up file sharing on each computer for the directories that you want to share between them.
