SACRED - No popups, no speech

HI:

I just started Sacred. I can not get any popup or speech from charactors that are indicated as necessary to talk to. Also, no popup on post signs showing directions. But I get popup when I left click on the stableman. I can also hear all background sounds. Just no communications with necessary charactors.

Running XP Pro and tons of RAM on my PC. It's only 8 months old and no problems with other games.

Can someone help me please?

    re-install check for patches.

    Thanks very much to taking the time to help me.

    I did re-install it and it didn't change anything. Then I checked for patches and the 4th patch I downloaded and installed, did the trick.
