Is Mcafee a better scanner?

I created a disk for a friend with Typing Tutor 2003 on it and my anti-virus picked up nothing.

I use Norton 2003 anti-virus and his McAfee said this same program has a backdoor Trojan.

Does this say Mcafee is a better scanner?

Did you have the latest virus definitions on both? There's always a possibility..(one picks something up and the other doesn't). It's more common than you would think.
And that wouldn't really prove one better over the other.
I won't use NAV anymore after finding out how much it takes over your pc and puts a drag on the system.
Right now , I'm using AVG,Spybot Search & Destroy-resident,Windows firewall, also a router w/built-in firewall. Plus once a week I do a free Trend Micro online virus scan.
IMO, And many others I believe would say Trend Micro's PC-cillin is better than NAV or MCafee.
This is a subject I think everyone will be interested in. So, Check the front page tommorrow (4/4/05). I'll research it and see if I can't post some good comparison reviews for all.

I've heard a lot of good about AVG Is it very expensive? I want to lose NAV in the worst way.

Make sure you use the uninstall in the NAV start folder to remove it. Then do a search for NAV files to delete the rest, and believe me there will be files!

AVG has a free version for home users.....
    AVG Free Edition

I despise AVG. Not saying that you guys can't like it. :)

But, I prefer Avast. www.avast.com. Their home edition is free. It's done a wonderful job for me so far.

Avast is a good one also. It has good reviews and ratings.
Just out of interest, what problems did you have with AVG?

Well avast personal is a good idea its free once you register, and updates are free, just pro you have to pay for. Macafee is great, I've used avast/macaffee/norton/kasperski and many more in the past, and for some reason macaffee seems to be the most reliable, and once you spend the $30 bucks on the virus scan disc it lasts for a year, btw you have to register in order to recieve updates as well. I knew this guy who installed 2 virus scanners at once. Don't! I repeat Don't do this! It can cause you all kinds of conflict problems, nevermind corruptec ram, lol ..

I never used it personally, but we had quite a few machines here at work that used it. Aside from the legality issues of that, it never reacted properly. All we ever got was "AVG has found [this virus], please run a scan now." Whenever you ran the scan, it usually came up with nothing. First of all, shouldn't it have the ability to remove at the point of locating a virus? Second, what the hell?! Haha. If you say you found something, you should be able to find it again.

Another issue we had for a looooooong time was that it would never auto-update. That finally went away. I also have a few minor gripes with the interface. I guess it's just personal experience with it, and I'm sure the pay product is much better than the free edition.

Ah, well. We have a corporate version of Symantec that I should be deploying next week. If anyone has exprience with this, please post. We don't have a test setup on which I can try this out before deploying, so it's just a hope I can get everything right to begin with.

Guess no one reads the front page news! This was posted a few days ago. Monday, April 4th, 2005 Antivirus Software Comparison Reviews
And I agree with the comparisons made. I've used all of the products reviewed.
While I agree with the review of these different programs, I'm using AVG,Spybot Search & Destroy-resident,Windows firewall, also a router w/built-in firewall. Plus once a week I do a free Trend Micro online virus scan. All free.
