New PC!

edited June 2005 in Hardware
Hey guys i'm back and I've got cash, i'm going to have about 2 grand to spend on a pc. I am wondering if I should get an FX-55 and don't overclock, or get a AMD 939 3000+ Winnie and overclock it with watercooling?
Current specs would be
Processor: AMD 64 3000+ (maybe 3500+ Winchester?) 939 Winchester
Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum Edition
Memory: 1gb of OCZ RAM (Platinum)
Video Card: ATi Radeon X800 Pro 256mb
HDD: 200gb Maxtor
Water Cooling: Koolance EXOS system with CPU-HO6 cooler and GPU-L08 or w/e cooler.
Tell me what you think

I'd shoot for a x800XT, unless you get lucky and get a Pro that can be softmodded to open all 16 pipes...

I'd go for the overclock, if you're going bleeding edge then push it til it hurts!

    I already have the X800 Pro :)

IMO, get a venice and OC away 8) should be able to hit 2.7-2.9GHz depending on how good your cooling is. maybe even higher.

    my 2cents

    HOLY EFFING SCHIESSE!
He got freaking 2.8 ON AIR!!!
    from a Venice 3200+ 939!
I have to get a venice! This is amazing, I might even go with a Venice 3800 because I saw someone get 3.8 ghz with that.
Mind you it was dry ice/phase change cooling
but I can imagine i'll push 3.0 with water

getting a san diego? (san diego is venice with 1 meg L2 cache)that would be an awesome processor. i would expect a lil more out of a 3800+ san diego. if you wanted to, you could buy a chilly for your WC loop. costs $260 but worth it IMO. you could probly hit 3GHz with a 3200 venice pretty easy with that thing in your loop.

good luck with your venice/san diego

Actually, the 3700+ is the San Diego, as well as the 4000+, but the 4000 costs about 500 dollars while the 3700 cost under 400.
It's a hard choice to make, I mean, what will I really get out of 1mb cache?
Processor: AMD 64 3800+ (maybe 3700+ San Diego?) 939 Venice

Is this a good setup? Especially the ram?

    i would get a differn't mobo. i'd recommend. Epox's 9NDA3+ Epox
i have just heard too many bad things about MSI's board to recommend it. you can get it if you want, i just wouldn't recommend it.

the memory should be fine, i'm assuming its this OCZ if so then you shouldn't worry about your memory.

as for the cpu, only get the san diego if you have the extra cash, otherwise you could get a nice venice core. if you have the money, get the 3500+ vencie. i've seen people get 2.6GHz on stock voltage with air. srry about the mess up before, i typed a lil to fast in the key pad :p

what about your PSU? your PSU could make or break your system.

good luck with your system, since you're on watercooling, i'd expect some nice clocks from either the venice or san diego.

its a 600w OCZ power supply.
San Diego is nicely priced actually (3700+)
    it's only 334, 3200 is 200, 3500 is 272, 3800 is 379, and 4000 is 549!
lol the 4000 is a bit much for me haha, but the 3700 is nicely priced.
Only one thing I don't like about it. lol is the Number
3700 is such a weird number
Its like OOH 3000! ooh 3200! OOH 3500! hmmm 3700?? OOOH 3800! lol
I dunno, I bet if I wait long enough they'll have a venice or san diego FX chip lol that'd be INSANE!!!
    3700 isn't available for a while (from www.monarchcomputer.com)
If you wanna see search for AMD Rev. E

yep, monarch has had the venice chips availiable for preorder for awhile now. and your psu=:cool: get the 3700+ san diego. i'd expect about 2.8-3GHz out of that cpu since you have watercooling. be sure to keep us posted when you get your parts.

there is gonna be a FX based off the san diego core, i beleive its called FX-57. now thats a nice chip

3700+ got a 3.2ghz stable on watercooling on some french forums.
Very nice, i'd like more, but I won't push it lol.
Now if I wanted to spend MAD money, I could go for 4000+ San Diego!
I think it starts at 2.4ghz
    I need a cheap waterchiller.

i'm guessing the swiftec one is too much? $260 isn't too bad IMO. you'll get about 3.2 or higher probly if you get that chiller.

people have hit 3ghz on air with the 3200+ venice
with the 3700+ youll hit 3.4 easy with water cooling

Ok, I have decided on this to save me some time and money for the time being.
    Case: NZXT Trinity Black
    Processor: 3200+ Venice
Cooling: ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU 120mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan - Retail
    Memory:OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 466 (PC 3700) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model OCZ4661024ELDCGER3-K - Retail
    Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (939)
HDD: 300gb Western Digital Serial ATA
Video Card: X800 Pro 256mb AGP (Currently Own)
    PSU: Antec 450w (Currently Own)
DVD: HP Dvd-RW drive (Currently Own)
This will run me about $803.76 for the new parts but I think I will get at least 2.8ghz stable with the 3200+
    Any suggestions?

Check that your cooler will fit with that board, the Neo Plat 2 has had problems with certain 120mm coolers in the past... Other than that it looks like a very nice machine.
