well i went into the bios and checked out Soft III....it was set at 500 so changed to 1400....

When i saved it tried to restart but nothing....black....just a black scree...

I pulled the plug...battery and pin....reset the cmos...

Now i restart and get this: "CMOS checksum erro - Defaults loaded"

    NOW WHAT?

Make sure you have the FSB, the Multiplyer, and the FSB/CPU ratio set exacly as they are designed to be or it will freak out.

NTLDR -NT Loader. Part of startup xp sequence.

Boot from XP CD, like you want to install. NOT REPAIR CONSOLE. Maybe that can fix it - but I don't know how.

Tell it to install - it will detect installation - give you option to do repair install.

    Somesuch sequence like that.

well...i was think of putting them in one at a time to make sure of that...

there is no master and slave on the settings...it is H0 H1 and so forth...thing is neither drive has jumpers in them which tells me that default is slave on one and master on the other....but i thought i knew which was which but thinking not now...

I did find an article that told me how to copy the files from the XPCD to the drive and did that and still same thing...so not sure what will happen now...

Going to do the drives one by one and see if that works...

Wont be till tommarrow though cuz working till 0200 and not gonna work on it at 2 in the morn...lol

Post back tommarrow...thx for the input Zun

IS that the best way to go?

    I got 200....
  • HawkHawk Fla Icrontian
    edited May 2005
Have you run memtest on the memory? You load it on a floppy and it runs before your pc boots up. Run all 7 tests through to find out if the memory has any errors. Run it with one stick in at a time. Do that first before buying all new stuff.

    Ok Hawk...

I downloaded the mem program and put on a floppy...put it in the drive and get a message of "disk boot failure, press....."

    now what...

    Do u have IM?

You have to go into the bios and change boot sequence to boot floppy first. Then it will boot to the dos memtest and run the tests.
And yes, You can IM me, just click on my name--Hawk-- and in the dropdown menu click --View Public profile-- then in there you can click on whichever IM program you want to add me too on your system. Then, I will get a message saying you have added me to your IM, and I'll add you to mine. Done, Then you can get me on IM.

give me some credit...lol...it is on the floppy

    lol

    Any other thought?
  • HawkHawk Fla Icrontian
    edited May 2005
Ok, I wasn't refering to you not having any knowledge of pc's. Just thought you might have forgotten to do that. When you downloaded it to your pc did you run the program to load it to the floppy? I'm just trying to cover ever base here.
I was going to suggest next you try the diagnostics programs from each of the HD manufacturers. But if you can't even boot to the floppy, you can't do that.
I've got my Trillian on now, so if you want to IM. It might be faster.

Didn't think of it, you can just click on the IM of your choice under my AVI and it will send me the message and open a chat window.
    AIM, MSN, or Yahoo.
