How to low the speed of 4 pin fans

edited June 2005 in Hardware
Hey guys,

I was just wondering if anyone knows about a place where I could get mayself some sort of power retrictor for my case fans.

I have just got a new case which has 4 fans on it, but they are all powered by 4 pin connectors which can all be tandomed together. So currently running of 12 volts and sounding like the back end of a hugh airconditioning unit.

Does anyone know of such a wire? to lower the voltage?

Any help would be good.

Cheers

Chris

Never heard of such a thing and you'd need a resistor in there at some point to drop the voltage.

How about buying a fan controller, or makeing a baybus?

This is an example of a Fan Controller you can use. Mind you, I haven't used it or others to recommend any certain one. I will leave reading the reviews of these fan controllers to you, and you can make your own decision on which you prefer.
There are fan controllers that fit 3.5 bays & 5.25 bays.
Some will monitor and control up to 3 independent fan sources, display temperature, hard drive activity, system power, time and date.
Some only monitor and control 3-4 fans. They have different connectors for the fans, so be sure you check that. Because you have all fans of 4 pin molex type, you'll need the changeover extensions.
pcToys 5.25in Fan Controller (silver) There are reviews under it to see more of the setup, connectors, etc.
It has connectors included, - two 3 pin fan extensions and two 4 pin to 3 pin extensions, so you'll have to buy two more 4 pin to 3 pin extensions in order to get all 4 fans with 4 pin molex connectors on there.
Coolerguys has other fan controllers too. It's a reputable site.
xoxide.com is also a good site, and they have controllers that fit both size bays. Look under Fan Accessories.
All that said, I would recommend having some heat monitoring/warning software setup or keep a very close eye on your temps. You sure don't want to burn anything up by trying to quiet your case. Hope this helps clear up a little bit on the subject for you.
Just realized your in United Kingdom, so you'll be checking them out over there. But these 2 sites have quite a few you can look at for reference.
