Dead mobo?

Ok, my sister an ER nurse from (YAGGA is gonna love this one) Minnesota calls me last night and says her comp won't turn on.

I had her check just about everything I could think of,
Incoming power to the PSU
mobo to PSU connection
each stick of ram individualy
even had her jumper the power switch to make sure that the case switch
wasn't an issue.

She has a dell with on-board sound, a nic, and an agp card. Now keep in mind she is a nurse, although smart, she is not very technical and has no spares to swap out.

dead mobo?

Is it getting any beeps, fan, lights, hdd spinning up anything. If it's got nothing I'd say PSU.

what? I heard my name. I would guess mobo, but I will say that everytime because of bad experiences, so Kryyst is probably more right.

Actually, since it's dell and I/you/we know that the psu, memory, etc. are not good brands, it still could be anything. I know someone with a dell recently that burned his mobo, cpu, psu, and graphics card, it took ages to figure it all out and get it all working again. I would not trust mobo beeps, because if it beeps or if it doesn't it could be malfunctioning, however, if it is giving messages, look there first.

She claims to see a little green light in the corner (not sure what that means other then the psu is putting out something) but nothing else.

Ummm unfortunately that only means the PSU hasn't blown completely could still be bad though and it's only passing the barest minimum of power.

You may have to get her on the phone and have her put the phone on different parts of the the case and listen to see if you can hear anything. If there are no fans at all (specially from the psu) then I'm thinking PSU. If you are getting a PSU fan then I'd start trouble shooting CPU and Ram. The old remove everything turn it on see if it beeps at you, add something in see if it beeps etc... If the PSU is working and there is nothing attached to the MOBO and you get no beeps, then it's probably the MOBO.

Dell had on their cases for a while 5 lambss behind. When the system was booting up the pc would check if there is a hardware problem and the corresponting lamb would light red(there were 5 lambs). ask your sister to check it out.
