need to uninstall a software component

hello. i use Nero Vision Express 3 which installs a media player called Nero Showtime. I want to un-install Nero Showtime because, for lack of better term, it stinks compared to what i consider to be the best, VLC Media Player.

but, the add/remove programs utility does not show nero showtime. do you know of a way to uninstall only that component, or to at least remove all file associations, so that a file will never automatically launch Showtime?

thanks

Does it have a remove utility in the program under the Start-Programs-Nero, or what ever the program file is called. If not you might try putting the CD in and explore that for an uninstall program on it. Some softwares you can use the CD and it will give you the option to Add, Remove, or fix software programs that comes on the CD.

no, nothing exisits under the program file folder. i did not get a physical CD to install the app-- it was downloaded.

i thought perhaps someone knows of an XP utility for tweaking such things. i might be able to just get in the file properties (for example, right click on the avi) and associate it w/ a specific program. but, being a bit anal about this type of stuff... i'd like to completely remove the program. i'd just feel "more clean" that way. you know how these things can gum up the registry and cause slower performance. i try to keep the installations of media players to a minimum.

    thanks!

Ahhh, That sucks when they do you like that with software. Maybe check the Nero site for uninstall references. They should have something in the way of directions for uninstalling their software.
Dang, I hate when that happens. It's extremely annoying. Because you know if you don't uninstall it properly, your going to get glitches down the road.

    my fears exactly

i guess i'll just suffer the annoyance for now. no big deal. it's kind of like having a pimple-- you know you should just leave it alone, but sometimes you just have to play with it. okay, i probably could have thought of a better analogy... :kaka:

If you re-install the program there is an option to not install that part of it. That's the only way I know of to remove it.

No problem, I believe you have to do it through custom install but it may pop up at the beginning.
