Geforce-FX 5900XT vs Radeon 9600XT

edited July 2005 in Hardware
i'm going to buy a new videocard, my board is an EPOX-8RDA3+ which supports 8X AGP...

now in my budget i can afford Geforce-FX 5900XT or Radeon 9600XT [$200 NZ Dollars] both 128MB

can anyone advice me on which one is better! I use this machine for gaming (Doom 3, Far Cry, War Craft etc etc..), watching DVDs... and why a 256MB is not as good as 128MB???

thanks

i'd go for the 5900 if they're about the same price, it's supposed to be the competitor to the 9800..or 9700, i forget, and i looked at a review and it got noticeably higher framerates than the 9600

I have a BFG 5900XT, and it runs games like what you want just fine!
You will not be able to run AA and high quatity settings, but for Doom 3 I run 1024 X 768 medium quality and it is pretty and smooth. Warcraft 3 runs great maxed out, no idea about WoW tho.

I'll give the FX5900XT a go... i'm using a Radeon 9100 at the moment, had a Radeon 7500 before that.

I think its time to try "nVidia" :)

    cheers guys
