Oh and I break the tie.

I say Doom 3 is better, because you don't have to deal with Valve's bullshit security crap. Also I think the engine - not necessarily the game - is better. For overall game play I prefer HL2. However as overall customer satisfaction is concerned HL2 annoys the hell out of me.

Are you kidding me? Doom III is a pile of crap in a pretty package. HL2 is an amazing game.

    Why?
  • edited July 2005
Because they promised so much yet delivered so little. Half Life 2 was cool because of the 3rd party physics engine that we had basically already seen in Max Payne 2.

Doom 3 was one long dark walk through what could have easily (other than the graphics) been a game from the 90s.

Played HL2 once and was impressed, was'nt amazing but good.Doom 3 was good for awhile but I hated that damn flashlight! But I am glad I got HL2 because it came with CS:S,now that in my opinion is an amazing game!

HL2 by far.... DOOM3 isn't even pretty. I wouldn't wanna build any game of mine to look like that pastic crap they do. Too many normal maps, too little content. Everything looks wet, I like a nice new car to look wet, but not the people!

HL2 has much larger areas to explore, better physics, and pretty much better everything. I barely played DOOM3... refused to buy it after that point and I never looked back.

Damn I haven't played Doom 3. But I have played and own HL2. Worth every cent imo. True that Steam is a pile of crap, although nowadays it's more or less reliable. Some time ago it really sucked donkey balls. And Counter-Strike: Source is amazing, can't wait for DoD: Source.

Completely true that HL2 was a disappointment, back in the days I had a 500meg HL2 preview and I was amazed, my expectations were sky high. When I played the actual thing I was let down. Still, HL2 was very good! Physics engine rocks.

I have Doom 3 and I think it's damn nice looking...that is when I can actually see something. Things jumping out at you in the dark is a cheap scare tactic, plus I like to see where the hell I'm going without having to download and install a flashlight mod. But I still like it.

I haven't played HL2, but I hear from a coworker it's an awesome experience. I'm definately not a fan of their whole online registration system I heard about, so that's part of the reason I'm not playing it.

As for what I REALLY like? Bring back games like Thief: the Dark Project. Deadly shadows was okay, but it still felt like a console port. :P

I personally prefered Doom 3. The simple reason for that is that i enjoyed it more than HL2. The atmosphere was better with more tension, and I have to say that i played the game through twice and could see perfectly well without downloading any flashlight mods.

Nothing more scary than Manhacks and Striders in HL2 + the right music at the right time. I remember my first meeting with Manhacks and I was like Eeek! :eek1:

I think original PC games died when Looking Glass became defunkt. :(

I wouldnt go that far, there are still plenty of good games getting released. Its the old development houses which cant keep up these days.
