Internet Explorer

Can someone tell me the implications of disabling Internet Explorer on a Windows XP machine? My friend is using AOL and does not want her children to use Internet Explorer. Thanks.

i don't know what else might be affected, but one thing i can tell you is that even though the automatic update feature in Windows XP is not affected, MS requires IE in order to manually use their Windows Update website. and since disabling IE doesn't remove it, the updates provided by Windows Update will still need to be installed.

i don't think you'll be able to use Windows Help, either. there's probably a few more - someone else might know.

LIN's right, but u should tell your friend that AOL is tah suc, and not to use it if she is worried about internet security for her kid.

As long as you just remove it from inside the windows components you are fine. If they go in to program files and delete it there you will totally screw your system.

I don't think she's interested in internet security per se, so much as she may be worried about content filtering. AOL has excellent content filtering for kids.

You are right. I am interested in content filtering ...six kids. Have Norton Internet Security for the rest.
