What can I use to make avi's work on regular dvd players? Preferrably this program would also be able to convert from other formats as well like .mov, and more.

First follow airoh's link they have the info you require.

But in a nut shell some dvd players will play .mpg files off a dvd so you can use tmpgenc to decode and recode avi's to dvd. Most dvd players will only play actual dvd formated movies so you have to take your avi's, mpeg's etc... and master them into a dvd. There is some free software out there that does it. But personal I find it's all a pain in the ass and doesn't work as well as the stuff you can buy.

My person software to pimp is Nero Ultra with Nero Vision Express it's the easiest software I have every used to make DVD's. It's been able to convert anything that I can play in media player into a dvd. I haven't tried .mov though and my hunch is you can't natively convert a .mov with it. You'd first have to get some other software to convert the mov. It's one of the few programs I've bought, and it was worth every penny.
