XP Pro 64 bit restarting before bootup

edited September 2005 in Science & Tech
I am trying to install XP Pro 64 bit with and AMD Athlon 64 bit 2800+ processor. The problem is that after the installation seems complete, when the bios loads and the XP 64 bit window pops up for a tenth of a second, then the computer restarts, and continues to restart until I turn it off, or hit del during the start windows normally turns off the timer. Any suggestions?

First I'd try re-installing it a gain with a full format. It's very possible that you got a corrupted file while installing it. The other possibility that usually causes this is bad ram.

Can you not get anywhere with safe mode?

From the sounds of the restart point it's before the safemode prompt.

Sure if it's crashing just after post at the first windows thing.

If you hold F8 windows wont even have a chance to start loading, this may be something simple like a driver error, loading in safe mode may make it easier to see which one fails. After that a quick recovery console visit to either disable or reinstall the component may fix things.

You know you could be right been a long time since I've had to go into safe mode. I though though there was one screen after you start hitting f8 that loads before it comes up with the safe mode prompt.
