OpenGL 1.5 or 2.0

Should I care if a new graphics card is OpenGL 1.5 or 2.0? I assume yes, but whats the deal?

BTW its a 6600GT for my bro.

    While its nice that the hardware would support Open GL 2.0 by the time Windows does the games using it are going to run like a slideshow on anything series 6 based.

    Thats my guess anyway, I could be way off the mark....
