Breaking throught the barrier.

Holy SHIT, that was hard.

I have been a long time Windows user, but I like to dip into linux. And when I say "dip into linux", I really mean "install linux but then get pissed off because I can't do ANYTHING and uninstall it in favor of XP. Again."

Well, that may have changed. I know very little about UNIX or linux. But through the grace of God Almighty, I was able to Install Fedora Core 1.0, configure everything, enable .MP3 support, use YUM to get all my required updates, install Java using a .BIN file, and install Limewire using an RPM. I write to you from a working Fedora 1.0 core 4 box. And listening to a "possibly" stolen Metallica MP3.

The biggest thing about moving was not being able to P2P or game. Well, I'm halfway there, no reason to give up now!

EDIT: Wow, what a blatant misspelling. Can anyone remedy that please?

Well best of luck on your crusade. I love it for servers but it's still lacking some required functionallity that I need for my home use. It just doesn't have dvd burning/authoring tools that I need. If it wasn't for that I'd be linux all the way at home.

I have yet to try linux, just haven't felt the need I guess. What are the pro's to using it?

    Pro's

Cost, stability and general OS functionality

    Con's

Some driver issues, lack of commercial (windows) supported Software, can be intimidating to first time users.
