WHY SO MANY svchost

My new computer (2 months old) has Windows XP. I noticed in the task mananger under processes, there's like 5 or 6 svchost processes running at the same time. Is this bad or normal? I've never used xp before this computer.
I know some svchost processes can relate to some virus or worm, but I'm not having any trouble with the machine at all. Help please
I guess what I am really getting to, is if there are bad bugs here, then how do I know which svhost to get rid of, and which to keep..............

That's pretty normal, I currently have 6 going on my machine and I guarantee you mine's clean. If any of them are chewing up more then 02 CPU clock cycles regularly you may have some cause for concern.

Thanks for the tip. I checked the cycles and they seem normal.
    Thanks again,.

svchost stands for service host.. its the backbone of most MS services. its normal to have that many running.. although in NT closing them was really fun. (hard crash)
