Need some help

edited June 2006 in Science & Tech
I am trying to finish an first install of the wireless router (Linksys WRT54GS V.5) and i am having problems with the connection. i tried using Linksys's chat support but they are severely slow in reponding to questions and I wonder if it's a bot Im chatting with, lol.

My issue is that I can't find how Im supposed to assigned the IP Address and subnet mask so I can go wireless. I have goen thru the setup a few times but it doesnt want to recognized the router or IP address.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unplug the power to the modem, the router, and turn your computer off. Plug the power into the modem first, wait till your signal light (depending on your make/model) goes solid, then plug the router power in, then turn your computer on. Once thats done then try to go through (And are you using Cable or DSL?)

First is your wireless card even seeing the router? If it's not and power cycling things like Kurupt said doesn't change that then you won't be able to configure it wirelessly.

So to configure the router you need to connect to it through a network cable. The router should come defaulted to 192.168.1.1 Go to your browser and type in that number like you would any web address. That should take you to the router. It'll ask you for a login name and a password. For a linksys router leave the loggin name blank and put in the password it says in your manual usually it's 'admin' or 'linksys' (no quotes) for the password.

That will take you to the first setup page. In there you need to put in any info you need for you ISP. Then just follow through the manual it'll tell you where to turn on the wireless and activate WEP or WPA encryption etc...
