My terminoligy may not be right!
I have a Westell 327W from when I had Verizon DSL, now I have a Cable modem.
Question: Can I use this wireless Port to get my Cable modem out to my LT.
What I got going is the cable coming into the house going into the modem and that going out to my PC. I thought maybe there was a way to route it thourgh the Westell w/ Wireless and be able to have my LT run off the WAP and a Ecable to the PC!
Will that not work? I tried it and didnt have success..but i just plugged the Modem Ecable in port 1 and the PC Ecable to port 2.
TIA

Plug your cat5 (enet cable) into your port that doesnt have a number (different for every manufacturer, but basically should say like "Internet" or "LAN" or "WAN" or "Modem") and away you go =D
SO there is no in port other than for a HS phone line....
At least thats what i was told! Do you concur?
Im not saying ur wrong...by any means you far out do me....lol...but check this out...
Its a Westell VerseLink Model 327W...
See what you think...I hope ur right...
http://westell.com/content/sales/327W.pdf this is the url it gave me when I searched it. Figured it would have to be pretty accurate considering where its linked to and the 327W =)
P.S. Not mad at all bro, I appologize if I came off that way =)
On the back of the unit there are ports labeled: DSL, Ethernet E1, E2, E3, E4, then a litle picture of 3 monitors stacked like a pyramid, the DC outlet and the power button...how do we make this thing work?
Check out page 16 and see if that is what im wanting....If i understand it right than 1 should be the thing ur talking about...Right?
I've been reading through the pdf on it and it doesn't really cover it, however you can test the possibilities beyond what tech support says. Try plugging your modem into eth1 and your pc into eth2 and see if you can get a connection. If you can then your wireless should work because the router is working in gateway passthrough mode and not trying to be the primary gateway.
If it's not working instantly then use your browser to go into the router settings and see if you can enable it. Now I'm betting that it won't work because unfortunately most modem/router combo's don't have this capability.
I can't really tell from the docs because they only cater to specifically setting it up for DSL. However it looks like you may be able to trick it. If you can tell the router to accept any connection from a given port or wifi within a specific IP and pass it through to a specific port you should be able to get NAT working and use it.
Again this is theory and I can't give you instructions based on the info in that pdf. But basically you go into the routing table and say accept all traffic from a given range (Your internal IP's say 192.162.x.x) and pass them to eht1 (where the cable modem is plugged into). The router itself has to do nothing gateway wise because your cable modem is handling it all so it may work.
It's not going to be pretty but that's the best I can offer. If you look through that pdf starting around page 42 it starts to talk about setting up the NAT table and adding rules.
But try it all first wired modem <--> Router <--> PC and see if you can get that working before you tackle wireless.
Thx for all the help
