64 Bit CPU Question (Really Easy)

edited August 2006 in Hardware
I feel stupid to ask, but have never had one before. If I get a CPU with 64 bit support do I have to run windows 64bit or can I run windows x86? I searched the web and came up empty. Thanks

Yes it will work but supposly you won`t get the advantage of the 64-bit cpu

airoh69 is correct. However the actuall advantage of windows 64 is suspect since most programs are still only 32 bit and are technically (though not noticebly) slower in windows 64. Also there are some driver compatiblity issues still with xp 64. Check out the 64 bit section of this board. There is a good thread on it.
