I just wanted to know from anyone that has replaced there xbox's stock DVD drive with a better one if they've had any problems with space or something else because I don't want to buy a replacement DVD drive and find out I can't fit in a mod-chip, an upgraded hard drive etc.

The DVD drives are all the same size. The difference is that in the xbox they are using a non-standard power connector so you'll have to get an adapter or build your own to go between a typical Computer DVD power connector and the one that the XBOX uses. Physical device size though isn't an issue.

Last I heard the power connector also functions as the eject and status function.

Well it's tied into it but the power adapter to go from an xbox dvd to a regular dvd is inbetween the power connector and the dvd drive so it doesn't affect normal functions.
