Reboot during registry scan

edited May 2007 in Science & Tech
Help!! I have an error on startup "one of the files containing the systems registry had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful: I press ok and computer works normally
I have tested memory overnight and that is ok.
XP reboots during registry scan using registry fix software,
Also reboot during HP imaging software installation, during installation" Update component registration".
Not sure if all this is connected

Hopefully someone will be along shortly that can be of more specific help, but here's my opinion: Any time any system tells me something (anything) is wrong with my registry, it's time to back up all my files and reformat the whole thing. I just don't trust registry "fixes" to be anything more than temporary. If you know how to backup and reformat, my suggestion is to do so. :-/

Try starting up in safe mode (press F8 repeatedly after your computer posts) and see if you are getting the same error. If you are there is something corrupt with a core part of your registry if not it's a secondary driver.

You may be able to fix it by doing a repair install from the installation CD, that does do a generally good job at cleaning up misc problems like this that can't easily be narrowed down.

But I 2nd Keebler's comment and you should start to backup any needed files now.
