I am running windows XP and the right click is extremely slow to respond. I am really tired of it. Anyone have an idea where I might start to look for a solution??
Hey bro! this may sound strange, but in reading about your problem it sounds like its network related. try unplugging the network cable and see if it stops. have you disconnected any network computers or any network drives?
Also is this a new problem that came out of no where, one that's been steadily getting worse, or one that's been there since you've started using this machine.
I think he'd have is video drivers installed...He might be having a problem with a failing hard drive. I used to have that problem years ago in 2000, Turned out to be a bad drive.
Whatup Bro' I have not changed my network connections (this is on my wife's computer) The problem has been around a long time . She says it is getting worse. Don't know what started it last year. she does have an integrated video but it is disabled. we installed an NVIDIA GeForce 6200.
Also do the needed spy/anti-virus scans and a defrag. Plus look to see what options are in the option bar when you right click. Could be a case of just a lot of programs installed that aren't needed.
Thanks for the ideas guys. I checked the hard drive for errors, ran anti virus and defragged. all to no avail. I did discover that when I right click on folders, there is no problem. It only happens when I click on files. Doesn't seem to matter what type though.

You have switched computers around and or changed out computers on your "network" within the last year! Try disabling the lan connection and see what happens. Basically I believe that when you right click it is searching for a shell extension of a program or link that is no longer available. Perhaps an old program that did not uninstall properly, or was moved or has become corrupt or it could be referring to an application placed in a network share.;)
yeah turn off drive indexing it's the most useless function MS has ever implemented. Right click on a drive in explorer choose properties and right there you'll see a check box for drive indexing, just remove it on each of your drives.
