Slow PC

Hi Folks, hope somebody can help. I am Running Windows XP SP2 with an Intel Pentium Processor 1.60GHz with 496 MB Ram. I have folllowed Trogan's 1-8 step guide so here I am.

PC has started running slow over the past 2 months and is now freezing a little when opening programmes and using shortcuts. it takes from 15 to 30 seconds for a shortcut to work.

Hi Stephen,

There are no signs of infection in the logs. Slow downs are not always malware related. I think now would be a good time to do some PC maintenance, if you have not already done so.

Hi Trogan, I have read and carried out most of the suggestions in the link you provided (computer maintenance) and you have no idea the difference it has made. I came accross a programme running in start-up called Alcmtr.exe. I have switched it off so it dosen't run now, as per the index provided in your link but do I have to uninstall it or anything.
