Is ther any reseon to get the latest version?

What i mean is I have been stuck w/ roxio for yrs and now i am ready to go out on a limb and get Nero, but sometimes the newest isnt always the best bang for the buck!

If there are no major enhancements or functions to the latest over one of the older versions than it is much cheaper to get an older one...

Thx for the insight

Bud

I use Nero 6.6.0.16, instead of the new 7.x series. It uses less RAM, and a LOT less hard drive space. The only true advantages of the newer versions is support for more drives (Usually not even an issue), Blu-Ray support, HD-DVD support. They also give you the option to convert videos into DVD-compatible, and then burn them, but I use separate programs for that so it's not something I value.

6.6.x supports dual layer DVDs, CDs, multi-session discs, Audio CDs and video DVD creation; that's all I need.

I've been using Nero 6.6 happily since it came out and haven't bothered with the upgrade to any newer versions. It's been making DVD's without any issues. However if you are planning on buying you probably are going to have to get the newest version - which is good adds some new toys, probably a little bit more of a system hog though.

I hate Nero 7.x. I use Nero 6.6 or iTunes to burn movies/music.

I liked Nero 6 very much, but it does not work with Vista, so I had to upgrade.

Nero 7 comes packed with bloatware. It is no longer content at being just a media burning program so it now has to try to be all kinds of things. I find it amazing how what was once such a useful program has become so bloated. Stay with 6.x unless you use Vista and in that case I would suggest getting a "Lite" version of Nero 7.

What sorta bloat where? If you are comparing Nero 7 to nero 6 burning rom I can understand. If however you are comparing it to Nero 6 Ultra then the bloat ware is already there. Mind you most of the bloat ware is actually pretty decent software, not all needed, but if it's all pretty good.

Here is what I am looking at...but I dont want to cut myself short in that this seems to be a slimmed down version like a LITE....so is this what i want?

I am just a simple user as in putting my kids pics and videos on dvd for distribution to family and then some basic back up stuff of my PC and DVD's.....

    Is this what i want?

Yeah, Nero Express is like a LITE version. The ULTRA version is the full package with all the utilities, and in that regard 6.x may be cheaper to buy than 7.x if you can find it.

We gave you the answer. Nero 6 is better than Nero 7, and you wanted the Ultra version of 6.

I only install Nero Burning ROM. The rest of the software that comes bundled with it are annoying, not feature-rich, or take up too much disk space.

That's what I do. Verison 7 is supported in Vista, which may be a selling point for some.

Try dvd shrink for making and burning backups of DVDs.
