Computex rolls on today, and our first bit of coverage for it this morning comes in the form of the official announcements for the Intel P35, G35, G33 and G31 chipsets, in order of descending enthusiast performance. It's not clear what these chipsets are intended to replace in the current lineup of offerings, but it's safe to say that things are about to turn upside down.

By that we mean all is not well in old Taipei for our fair owners of the lovable P965 chipset, which powers some amazing motherboards such as the Asus P5B series and the Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6. It has been revealed that the Penryn, while pin-compatible with P965 boards, will not be compatible with the chipset itself. There's no word at this time on whether or not the 975 is similarly affected.

Enthusiasts everywhere, who cling to the P965 for being insidiously fast and versatile, will now have to turn their eyes to the X38 or the P35 if they're looking to hop on the die-shrunk bandwagon.

The lads at C|Net have the 411.
