Here is what it boils down to. If the Radeon HD 2900 XT performed exactly on par with the GeForce 8800 GTS in every game, it would still be a loser because it draws nearly 100 more watts of power, meaning it is very inefficient. The facts are though that it doesn’t even match the 8800 GTS currently. In every game it slides in underperforming compared to the GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB, and it does it while drawing a lot more power, as much power or more as an 8800 GTX.

    GeForce 8800GTS 640MB - $359

    2900XT 512MB - $409

And you can move to a cheaper 600 or 650w PSU.

Food for thought. Good parts otherwise. :) Call me when I can overclock it.

I plan on having a 8800 by the end of the LAN anyway :p Didn't want to end up with 2 of the same card, and I'd like to be able to do my own cross-comparisons. :)

Yes, but aren't you hosting it?

Now I've gotta get my act together and get a setup again. I'm running on ancient pre-haxor technology know only as Northwood.

Yep... I'm running the show (Freak show, that is). I had no intention of excluding anyone from winning. Lottery tickets are the way to get some of the prizes. I'll only be playing a few games so my odds of winning (cuz I stink) will be far lower than many others.

Matt is totally open to win a dog tags or some gaming mice... :D

Oh... and the specs look REALLY good!

The thing that struck me was how freakishly huge the video card box was. This thing was.... like the size of a "Stratego" box or something. Huge.

Man, I love ATI's cards. Always have, but they've officially lost me as a customer with the HD line. They require way too much power to run and I'm an efficiency nazi. And it's long as hell. So I guess it'll be an 8800 for me, if my power supply will run one.

If your PSU is around 550-600w, and your rails are good, yeah.
