Laptop is slower than I remember.

Well, I reformatted my old laptop (Presario 2100), in order to give it a fresh start, since it's moved from a work system to a back-up home system (got a new one for work).

However, it seems to be running slower than I remember, and I'm not even doing that much with it. I'm mosty just using it to run Trillian so that I don't have to task switch away from what I'm doing to chat.

I Defraged the system, ran Avast! and Adaware (both clean), Checked for uneeded processes, then I went through all of the steps in that sticky thread "Slow computer? may not be malware".

Still it seems a little bit slow. However it might just be in my head.

I ran Hijackthis, and I don't see anything in the log, but I don't have the best eye for it. Could one of you guys take a look at it, and tell me if you see anything..

I'm sort-of hoping that you do, because if there is nothing there, it means that my laptop is just slow, and there's nothing to be done for it....

BTW: One-touch is the software that runs the volume buttons on my laptop case, and Gnotify is a little program that lets me know when I have new gmail. Bot are spyware free, and installed on purpose. That bittorent client is currently not downloading anything, and closing it doesn't help the speed of the system...

    Hello. :)

HijackThis log looks pretty clean to me. Try running Panda ActiveScan:
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

    - Once you are on the Panda site, click the Scan your PC button
    - A new window will open...click the Check Now button
    - Enter your Country
    - Enter your State/Province
    - Enter your e-mail address and click send
    - Select either Home User or Company
    - Click the big Scan Now button
    - If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
    - It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
    - When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
    - When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the log in your next reply.

I'm not comfortable with that service. I don't like how much information requires.

If you guys agree that there is nothing in my log, then I think the problem is just in my head... I must be remembering the computer as being a bit faster than it really is... :(

I think that all the information requested was for their malware research in different geographical locations and it was optional to fill up, but there are other free online scanners such as Kaspersky's which do not require these information:
    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Let me know how it goes.

Well, I trust that if it was a virus or malware that could be caught by a scanner Avast! and Adaware would have caught it. They've never let me down before. As I said: I'm chalking this one up to being in my head...

    Thanks for your help ;)
