Problems With Belkin 4 Port Router

I've recently started having problems with my Belkin router in that every time I reboot the PC or turn it on it cant establish an internet connection. In order to get a connection I have to reboot the router. I've tried re-installing the settings but the same still happens. I've also noted that if try & repair the nic connection in network connections in XP it fails saying it couldn't renew the IP address. DHCP is enabled and I'm now at a loss as what to do.

All ideas welcome.

Regards

Jim

Have you looked on the Belkin site for a firmware update?? :)

I remember when you got that router and it did something funky when you first had it.

    Hi Shorty,

Yeah been there done that, you may remember when I first got the router you gave me some assistance in setting it up as it was doing wierd things and we udated the firmware then. There's been no new releases since then but i reflashed the firmware anyway just to be safe and it still does it. :(

    Jim

P.S. glad to see you've gone back to old av.

Yeah.. I remember it doing wierd things but that was just while it was getting configured :) It's been alright since.. hasn't it?

No new releases :( Belkin are slacking. It's gotta be only 8-9 months old though? Sounds like it's locking up or doing something, but I can't figure why it's not issuing an IP address on the LAN side.. but does when the WAN side is rebooted :wtf:

Yeah, I've found it :D ... I also have the 'Intel bad' one as well :D

if the router's DHCp is assigning any IP to computers on the LAN side, couldn't u just setup IP's manually, it should work from there.

Hi leishi, yeah I could do that but auto assigning is so much easier espically when I connect other people pc's to the lan. I might try it as a last resort though.

As your main rig is down, have you suddenly gone to having no PC's always on? Or has system 2 come out of retirement? :)

Just curious as to whether you have a bad NIC playing havoc.

Neither rig used to be permanently on per se. But rig 2 tended to be on the most of the time.

Rig 1 was mainly a gaming rig but now that is down I find that I'm rebooting rig 2 or turning it off & on more often as now that I game on it.

Do you think its worth swapping out the nic then, it seems quite an odd error for a nic to be doing this. Also it doesn't do it when the PC is connected directly to the cable modem.

Hmmm, ok just swapped out the nic and it doesn't seem to be doing it anymore. So it looks like the the nic was on the blink after all. S-M tech support comes through once again. :)

    Thanks guys.
