Spyware Software Download Question

There was a thread or an article here somewhere that had a nice long list of recommended software to download to protect from Malware, but I am unable to find that thread/article and request assistance in doing so.

That's it thank you. I am trying to convince people that without protection their PCs can be used in unwanted ways and they will never know until it's to late.
