partitioning a new laptop with recovery disk
i finally got a hand on a new laptop! its pretty cool but i'm wanting to re-partition the harddrive!
spec brief:
HP DV6000 (http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/4673011a00c36e762740c0a87f3306a3/Product/View/XC3980)
Windows Vista Home Premium
120GB HD
this laptop unfortunately doesn't come with the OS CD!
the hard-disk has two partitions, 106GB for the OS and 7GB Recovery...
can anyone give me directions on how to do this?

Download the Live CD - burn it as an image. Boot off it, and resize your partitions as needed. It's a lot like Partition Magic, but I recommend you read the HOWTO or some of the documentation before you give it a spin, so you'll know what you're getting into.
ALSO, if you're considering deleting the 7GB partition (your post doesn't make it clear if you are going to or not) I would think it over before you do - it could void your warranty (this may not be the case for you) or destroy the copy of Windows that may be hiding in that partition.
i'm not familiar with boot disks but i'll try reading through that link you provided macdude
I can't say this enough times. DON'T!!!!! Do that. Never, ever do that it's an utter and total waste of time and can lead to way more problems down the road. Hell just look in this forum at the number of people that have multiple partitions and are now having issue because of a messed up table or because they later realize they need to change the structure.
2 windows partitions at the most is all you ever want on a drive. And even then it's only if you NEED to have the info seperated. For example if you are doing lots of VMWare work it's a good idea to make 2 partitions 1 for your every day use and 1 just to hold your images so that they have no chance of getting out of hand and over ruling your normal partition.
There simply is 0 benefit of partitioning drives now. A data partition is workable but one for programs is completely stupid. Windows for the most part never installs a program into just it's program directory there is **** scattered everywhere. So if you whipe your core files your programs for the most part will have to be re-installed anyway.
PEOPLE STOP THE MADNESS.
I've been googling for abit on this and have thought of partitioning my main drive (C:) into 76 and 30GB with the later for Linux!
is it ok for me to use Vistas shrinking tool? can i just shrink it and install Linux into this partition and run dual os?
