Javascript problem IE7 + OEM Reinstalls

A colleague of mine has a rather odd problem in her IE7 install, when she clicks links which should open new windows they often fail to work, with an error message 'interface not supported'

Another colleague and me have googled this and found that following this advice:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q180176/

And reregistering those DLL's solves the problem - however, its hardly convinient for me to be trotting over there every time this happens to do this and then get the person to reboot - SO... is there a way I can actually fix it?!

I tried removing and reinstalling IE7 and it still did not work, would the 'repair' option on the windows disk do anything to repair what I think is a corrupt registry?

The tricky thing is you can use IE for around 4 days and it doesnt happen - or it can happen twice in 1 day - so its hard to see if you have fixed it...

Failing that I could do a fresh reinstall... however it's an oem version of windows - I think it has been reinstalled before... and as I understand it you can only install a set number of times - is it possible to see how many goes you have had and how many you have left?!

Would this be the same link or different ones?

Might also be an idea to re-check the IE7 settings for tabs and new windows

This article may help you with regard to:-

    Hope this helps :)

I've given that oem install thing a look over - thanks for that

As regards the link - I think it happens on a few different links

Ill verify the settings in IE again, but as I said, since its quite random and works sometimes this suggests they are correct to me...

    Your welcome :):)

Would it be possible for your colleague to try opening the webpages on another IE7 computer to see if the same link error occurs.
If it does - this could mean that the webpages are designed for IE6 in which case you might find this link worth looking at:-

    Probably

The main problem occurs on an inhouse system, which is fine on everyone elses machine - most running IE7 - also the developer has looked @ her machine when it misbehaves - he was the one who found the initial stuff about those fixes which do actually fix it - all be it in a long winded non perminant way!

For now - the machine has firefox installed and is going to be used by a new person on Monday - I see no reason why they can't use firefox instead of IE -its superior in every way.

I ran CCleaner on the machine yesterday - and fixed all the problems it detected - whether this will fix the corrupt registry I do not know...

That's the annoying thing - the same inhouse system can be used for almost a week with no problems or problems can occur very frequently - making it hard to test if I have fixed it or not!
