Windows XP Login frozen

edited June 2007 in Science & Tech
Afterinstalling Norton Systemworks, the computer restarted on CHKDSK. Then it re-started again. I gets to the Login Screen with all the users listed, but it does not respond. I tried the recovery mode where I can run chkdsp /p and chkdsk /r but still can not get pass the login screen. Not even in safe mode. Help!!!

You could try bypassing your current Welcome logon screen, by
temporarily using the classic logon screen,

press CTRL+ALT+DEL two times on the Welcome logon screen, if it works you should get something similar to this

    Log On to Windows
    User name: _____________
    Password: _____________

then enter your user name (and password if you have one).

Thanks for your suggestion. After several other attempts that included replacing the hard drive (PC Doctor told me it was bad) and cloning it using some cloning SW, I was able to login in Safe mode. I'm runing defrag and hopefully would be able to make a full back up after that. I was not aware of the double CTRL-ALT-DEL trick.
