Logs aren't showing anything particularly bad, as such. Two HJT entries to fix though ...

Open HJT ... click on 'Do a System Scan Only'... put tick/check marks next to these entries IF still present ...

When you see your computer operating slower than normal have a look in Task Manager and see which process(es) is/are using up the most CPU resources. Post the results back here for futher comment.

What about those AVG entries that show a "changed" status for the kernell32 and the ntoskrnl? Are those okay, or should they be fixed?

Really these are normal changes that will happen from time to time. If AVG didn't say they were infected things are fine and it's only reporting that there were changes and it had recognised the changes.

The log is clean of malware. Are you having any more trouble? Is the computer still running suspiciously slowly?

It seems that my computer is struggling to run/do things. Example: When I boot up my pc, play AA or even open Firefox, I've noticed its taking longer to do these things and the red light on the front of my tower is blinking/staying lit more frequently. I don't know what's going on, but I know it's struggling more now to do these things than before. Hope this helps you understand a little more of what's going on. Any suggestions on what to check/do?

You didn't comment on my earlier question about which process(es) is/are using up the most CPU resources when you notice these system lags.

I think we need to look there again.

Please download Process Explorer from here....

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx

    Install it and run it.

You will be presented with a window that will show all the processes running on your system and it will try to ID anything bad by highlighting it/them in a red.

If you click twice on the column headed "CPU" it will bring the most active processes to the top of the list.

As I asked before .... please state which processes are using up the most CPU and we'll go from there.

Yesterday while trying to boot up my pc, I received long beeps and no boot up. I shut the system down, rebooted and it started up just fine. Maybe there's a hardware issue instead? I'm not sure on how to determine what may be the problem.
  • edited July 2007
Well there's nothing in the PE list to cause me concern. All normal stuff.

The top process is System Idle which, at the time you took this snapshot, seems to have been using 99.22% of the CPU. All normal.

You may be right about the hardware issue though. The number of beeps you heard would give an indication of where trouble might be lurking. Do you happen to remember the number of beeps?

On the software side all I can suggest is that you check with Process Explorer again when you feel the system is lagging and see if any different possesses start clogging up the system.

As all is apparently normal there's nothing else I feel I can usefully add.

There are general clean up tools & programs you can use to get rid of the rubbish that builds up whilst you are browsing. These include Superantispyware, CCleaner, AVG Anti Spyware, Stephen Gould’s “CleanUp!” and Trogan's thread here ....
