You have a "newdotnet" infection amongst other things.

However, you say you are running on "248mb ram". To get the best out of XP you really should have AT LEAST 512 MB of RAM. I have 1GB. This may be the prime reason why your machine freezes. Get yourself more RAM.

You are also using Limewire. Whilst the program itself MAY be free from malware the files you download can easily be infected. My advice to you is to stop using Limewire immediately and remove anything that you downloaded with it but that's your choice.

    ***********************

As to the infections please do this.

    ***********************

Make sure you have exposed all Hidden Files & Folders.

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

    1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
    2. Double-click on the My Computer icon.
    3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    4. After the new window appears select the View tab.
    5. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
    6. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
    7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
    8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
    9. Press the Apply button and then the OK button and close My Computer.

    ***********************

Please download and install Superantispyware here ….

    http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
    • Load SUPERAntiSpyware and click the Check for Updates button.
    • Once the update has finished, exit SUPERAntiSpyware. Please do NOT run a scan yet!

IMPORTANT: Do NOT open any other windows or programs while SUPERAntiSpyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process.
    • Open SUPERAntiSpyware and click the Scan your Computer button.
    • Check Perform Complete Scan and then click Next.
    • SUPERAntiSpyware will now scan your computer and when it’s finished it will list all the infections it has found.
    • Make sure that they all have a check next to them, and then click Next.
    • Click Finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
    • It could be possible that it will ask you to reboot your computer in order to delete some files after reboot.
    • I'll need a log afterwards of what has been found.
    • To get the log, click Preferences and then click the Statistics/Logs tab. Click the dated log and press View Log and a text file will appear.
    • Please post the results of the SUPERAntiSpyware log in your next reply.

    ***********************

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall/remove any programs with names like NewDotNet, newdotnet, new.net and similar. If you are unsure about a program please post the name of the program here for more advice.

    ***********************

Open HJT ... click on 'Do a System Scan Only'... put tick/check marks next to these entries IF still present (make sure you don't miss any)...

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = about:blank

    O23 - Service: NNServ - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\nnrun.exe" "C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\nncore.dll" ServiceStart (file missing)

Remember to close ALL open browser windows – including this one – before clicking on “Fix Checked” at the foot of the HijackThis window.

    *******************

Go to these files & folders in bold and delete them …..

    C:\Program Files\NewDotNet > whole folder

C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdocvw.dll > file only BUT BE CAREFUL to delete the correct file. There is a legit file with a name very similar ... do NOT delete that one.

winjks32.dll > search your system for this one then delete it.

    *******************

    Empty your recycle bin.

    *******************

Rehide your Hidden Files & Folders by carrying out the reverse operation to that described at the start of this post.

    *******************

Generate a Startup list using HJT like this ...

    http://forum.securitycadets.com/index.php?showtopic=157&pid=450&st=0&#entry450

    *******************

When this is all done post the Startup list, a fresh HJT log and the Superantispyware scan reports.

Please also tell us what you will do about your RAM and Limewire.

How is the machine operation now? Any better?

Hi Musicman, Thanks for a swift reply.

I have covered everything step by step.

With regards Newdotnet in the add/remove programs there was nothing of that name I could see.

Shdocvr.dll "Error message" Cannon Delete Access Denied make sure the disc is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use.

Winjkks32.dll I ran a search and failed to locate this file. (searched all files and folders)

I need to talk to my kids about limewire.

I do understand what you are saying about extra ram. This is a second computer for my kids use mainly so I will have a think about this one.

    Here are the logs
    Thanks again, Stephen.
