MSN Virus - msrr.exe help

I have run every anti-virus program I can think of and this thing just will not go away. Its causing my MSN to send messages to people asking them to rate some picture or some crap like that. People who take the time to write this viruses deserve public execution. (Sorry for that rant, it was necessary) Is there anything I can do short of reformatting... I dont want to do that again... Here is my HJT log.

    Hi,

You said you've run various Anti-Virus programs, but I don't see any Anti-Virus program in your HijackThis log.

Please download one Anti-Virus program from the list below - They are Free!

    AntiVir
    AVG Free Edition
    avast! 4 Home Edition

Also, no Firewall. Please download one from the list below - They are Free!

    Comodo
    Zone Alarm
    Sunbelt Kerio PF
    Outpost Firewall

    Now, do the following...

    1. Run HijackThis and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
Click on Delete a file on reboot...
Copy and paste the following into the "File name:" text box and then click Open:

    C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msrr.exe

When you are asked "Do you want to restart your computer now?", click OK.

Your PC MUST reboot to delete the file!

    2. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Let AVG finish the scan. Once it has, provide details of what is found, if anything. Also, post the results from VundoFix, which can be found here --> C:\vundofix.txt.
  • edited June 2007
    Vundofix found nothing...
    AVG found:

    C:\WINNT\System32\art.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\bnwyovws.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Content.IE5\L786CITV\ra[1].mp3

Post a new HijackThis log when you post the Panda report.

I keep having issues with Panda, it keeps freezing on me and then when I try to restart it, it gives me an internet connection error. But my Internet is obviously running... Here is the HJT

    This is not good...

Before we do anything, I need make sure you are not using any P2P programs. Better yet, uninstall Limewire.

    Please do the following...

    1. Open Task Manager (hold Ctrl+Alt+Del), and go to the Processes tab. Locate Gold.exe and click End Process.

    2. I need you to scan a file
    • Go to VirusTotal
    • Copy and paste the following file path into the Search Box at the top of the page:
    • C:\WINNT\system32\gold.exe
    • Click on the Send button
    • Please post the results in your next reply.
    3. Download this file to your Desktop - combofix.exe
